The riled patrollers started firing at the angry mob which killed 6 colonists, which one of them was Crispus Attucks.

After the Patriots retreated to Bemis Heights, after 18 days on October 7th the British Army again engaged with the enemy in a enervated state. But this time since the British militia was tired, the Patriots used this as an advantage and beat them. British General John Burgoyne surrendered on October 17th,1777.

A lot of help came from James Armistead who served as a spy in the American Army under Washington and Lafayette. In disguise, he was a servant to Cornwallis. Armistead told George Washington and Marquis de Lafayette that British ships were bringing new ammunition and fresh troops to New York and they would come here. In return, the French Navy made a blockade in New York, so Cornwallis’s army doesn’t get any more ammunition and troops. The prevention of more ammunition and troops helped the Americans tremendously. After the first shot was fired, the battle lasted for weeks. At the end, British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered to the British and French troops.
