Name: John Wilkes Booth

John Wilkes Booth was an American actor who favored the Confederate States and supported them. His whole family was made up of actors. Since he supported the Confederate, he felt angry when President Lincoln defeated the Confederate States because he favored them. For revenge, when President Lincoln was enjoying a play at Ford’s Theatre, he snuck up behind him and shot him in the head. He was later tracked down to his hiding spot, a barn in a rural farm area in Virginia. He was shot by a Union soldier, Boston Corbett, and the gunshot caused him to die.

Ulysses S. Grant was the most important general in the Civil War because he was the Commanding General who majorly had an important role in the success of the Union. He joined the U.S. Army and quickly climbed through the ranks. After showing skill as a Lieutenant General, he was chosen as Commander of Chief. Using various military tactics he defeated most of the Confederate forces. On April 9, Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant because most of his forces were defeated and battered up.

Robert E. Lee was the Civil War’s most tactical general which helped the Confederate win early Civil War battles. Robert E. Lee was a general in the Confederate Army. He commanded the Confederate Army. Robert, before joining the Confederacy, once got an invitation from the national government to lead the Union army. Robert, after emerging into the Confederacy and taking control of the army, did many things. First, he was a fearful fighter who helped his soldiers in battle. He relentlessly fought against the Union. He thought that they could win the battle by having a victory or two on enemy soil. He led two invasions which failed, they are the Battle of Antietam and Battle of Gettysburg. Overall, his aggressive tactics proved 


Name:Clara Barton

Died:April 12, 1912, Glen Echo, Maryland  
Clara Barton is a very important pillar in the success of the Union in the Civil War. It all started when Clara was a teacher in Massachusetts. She did the profession of teaching for more than 10 years. When the war broke out, she was in Washington. She wanted to help soldiers who were injured.She got permission from the War Department to tend soldiers. She noticed that many young men she treated were people she taught. She tended soldiers really close to the battlefield that once a bullet went through her sleeve and killed a patient. Many people called her “Angel of the Battlefield”. She organized men to make food for the wounded or do first aid. Many historians say that she was the reason that the Union won because she treated Union casualties. She traveled with the Union armies to make sure the army’s men were all well-treated and healthy.



Name: George Pickett

George Pickett was a Confederate major general who lost and won battles very inconsistently. But, he proved to be a lot of help to other generals in his career. He was one of the most controversial leaders with a lot of admirers. Pickett’s Charge was an failed attack by Pickett’s men. The assault was against Union general George Meade’s army on the last day of battle of the Battle of Gettysburg. The attack was strategized by Robert E. Lee although the name has Pickett in it. Pickett’s men were ready to fight full of energy when they approached the tired army of Robert E. Lee’s. Lee used Pickett’s men to lead their last attack on the Union in the Gettysburg Battle. He is one of the best and popular generals in the Confederate.


Name: William Tecumseh Sherman

Died: February 14, 1891, New York City, NY 
William Tecumseh Sherman was a Union Major General who is the most best general in the Union next to Ulysses. Simpson Grant. He is famous for his march to Atlanta which main reason was to destroy Atlanta, the city which is very important to Confederate forces. It is the hub of railroad transportation which allows goods to come in. He wanted the people of Georgia to get scared and go to the Union side. After Robert E. Lee surrendered many other generals were still fighting. General Joseph E. Johnston’s Army of Tennessee was the next biggest army next to Lee’s army. His army was defeated by William T. Sherman’s army, which proved to be a lot of help.
